What is Double Dutch?

For some it's art and others a sport, or both. Double Dutch is a collective sports activity whose intention is to be aesthetic, acrobatic and choreographic. It consists of executing figures by jumping between two elliptical and alternating strings, while keeping a regular rhythm. Roles can change because a jumper can become a turner and vice versa. It is a complete activity presenting a real originality. Street art very visual, this sport is always appreciated by the public.

Where does Double Dutch come from ?

This discipline was born more than 3 centuries ago in the city of New York and was brought by the children of Dutch immigrants. "Dutch" means "Dutch". In the 1970s, the sporting dimension of Double Dutch emerged in the USA, driven by ghettos prevention structures and in partnership with schools.

Why practice Double Dutch ?

Double Dutch is a sporty and fun practice. But it has the particularity of allowing girls and boys to mix, because Double Dutch is a mixed activity. Each person has an important role within the group (turners, jumpers or both). This helps develop communication between individuals and teamwork. In addition, it also helps develop motor skills, coordination and listening to everyone, not to mention creativity. It is a complete discipline that works both physically and mentally.

What does it take to do Double Dutch ?

Double Dutch does not require any specific equipment, except ropes and suitable sports gear.
